Crisis management: Following the two devastating earthquakes in Nepal, an emergency relief operation reached over 36,000 people, who had been directly affected. This was made possible through a long-standing cooperation with the local partner and good local networking. We supported families in remote villages in the Lalitpur district and the highly marginalised Chepang people in Makwanpur. In the villages, sanitary facilities, drinking water supply and a hygienic water balance were ensured. At the same time, the rainy season was used to plan the reconstruction of destroyed houses and to train the people affected.
Reconstruction: At the beginning of 2016, the reconstruction of the destroyed houses was started together with the affected families. Their great efforts and the competent leadership of the local partner made it possible for these families to move into their new houses before the onset of the 2016 monsoon. Minor internal work continued until August, and reconstruction was successfully completed in autumn 2016.
