Tsunami

Place: South India
Duration: 27. December 2004 – 31. December 2005

Usthi gave new hope to 35,000 survivors of the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Just a few days after the natural disaster, we were on site with emergency care and first aid. We had 75 traditional wooden boats built and distributed them to fishermen in 24 affected villages in southern India. The school material and bicycle programme allowed the children to continue their education at undamaged schools further inland. In addition, we made it possible for injured children to undergo medical treatment and surgery to prevent permanent physical damage.
