Usthi has been active in the field of Protection & Empowerment in India since 1989. In 2016, the Bangur Home project in Kolkata was successfully brought to completion.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

1989 TO 2016: BANGUR HOME<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Decades ago, countless children in India\u2019s major cities were already struggling for daily survival on the streets. Street life exposed them to extreme dangers, leaving them highly vulnerable to exploitation and human trafficking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1989, Usthi began by providing shelter to twelve girls in a flat above its office in Kolkata. Building on this initiative, a larger family-style community was established in 1992 on Bangur Avenue, in the heart of the city. The Bangur Home provided a safe environment for up to 35 orphans. The girls were able to grow up, play and study within the protected framework of this family community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the end of 2016, the project had achieved its goal: all the girls had grown into independent young women able to stand on their own two feet. Through determination and hard work, they successfully entered the Indian labour market and now lead independent lives. Some of them work for airlines, others in the hotel industry or in the IT sector, and some have already started their own families in the meantime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
