On 17 October 2026, the Swissair Aid for Children Foundation celebrated its 70th anniversary at Zurich Airport. Usthi had a stand at the event, informed visitors about its work in India and Nepal, and exchanged ideas with other non-profit organisations.
What does Usthi have to do with aviation and Swissair?
More than you might think! Usthi founder Kurt Bürki was a Swissair pilot and could count on the support of his crew and his employer. Thanks to a large donation from Swissair and its employees, the Penthakata School in India was founded in 1992. It continues to be supported by Swissair Aid for Children to this day.
Just in time for the 70th anniversary of Swissair Aid for Children, a new chapter begins for Penthakata School: a comprehensive expansion over the coming years will modernise the school. Part of the infrastructure needs to be replaced, and capacity is set to grow from around 400 to around 650 children. The expansion also creates an opportunity for the school to cover a larger share of its costs itself in the future.
A successful collaboration
Usthi thanks Swissair Aid for Children for their long-term and generous support! We warmly congratulate them on their 70th anniversary and look forward to continuing our collaboration.
